Palace Not Giving Up on Counting Machines

Malacañang is not giving up on the use of the automated counting machines (ACMs) in the May 2007 elections.

Presidential Chief of Staff Michael Defensor said the Palace was now thinking of asking Congress, both administration and opposition , to discuss possible ways to modernize our election process and ensure clean and honest elections not only in 2007 but also in the future elections.

Further, the palace is also entertaining the idea of asking Congress to pass legislation mandating the use of the ACMs purchased from the Mega Pacific Consortium.

Defensor added that while Malacanang respected the high court’s decision, this did not preclude any party from filing an appeal or a new case.
