Crowds outside COMELEC offices is
democracy at work
As the deadline of voter registration for the Barangay elections approaches, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) today described the high turn out nationwide as “democracy at work”.
“The huge turn-out of applicants in this year’s voter registration is not only indicative of the people’s eagerness to exercise their right to vote, it is also a telling proof of their continuing faith the electoral process. It’s democracy at work” said COMELEC spokesman James Jimenez.
And to help protect the applicants from any untoward incidents, especially in those offices with high applicant turn outs, the necessary precautions have been put in place, Jimenez added.
He said COMELEC office in Manila, for example, has medics and ambulances from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and Ospital ng Maynila on standby, ready to give first aid and medical attention to applicants who may complain of dizziness due to overcrowding and heat.
The extended nationwide voter registration for the Barangay elections ends at 5:00PM today while applications for the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections will still be accepted during the weekend of August 4 and 5 in Barangays and public schools nationwide. ###
