The Commission on Elections reported this afternoon that the sealing of the thousands of electronic voting and counting machines deployed in the Autonomous Region in Muslin Mindanao (ARMM) has already started – three days ahead of the historic regional balloting.
“We have received reports from our people that as of 2:30PM today, precinct level actiities in Maguindanao is proceeding smoothly and as scheduled,” Jimenez said.
In Tawi-Tawi, the COMELEC spokesperson said even in the remotest municipality of Sibutu, Tandubas, Sapa-Sapa, South Ubian, Mapun and Turtle Islands; all the counting machines are already sealed. In the municipalities of Languyan, Simunul and Sitangkay; sealing activities are still on-going, he said.
In Lanao del Sur, the COMELEC started sealing the machines shortly before 10:00AM and by 11:36 AM, a power outage occurred in Marawi City’s Provincial Capitol “but sealing activities there proceeded because there’s a back up generator” Jimenez said.
About 3,300 electronic voting machines will be used in the province of Maguindanao, while 156 automated counting machines are set to be employed in the five provinces of Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Shariff Kabunsuan and Lanao del Sur.###
