bagongbotante Knowledge Base Center now open

The Commission on Elections Education and Information Department (COMELEC-EID) today invited the public to take advantage of its newly opened facility, the bagongbotante Knowledge Base Center , located inside its main office in Palacio del Gobernnador, Intramuros, Manila .

The bagongbotante Knowledge Base Center houses past and present COMELEC Resolutions, audio-visual presentations, books, periodicals, maps, publications and reading materials on elections and democracy. It also has internet workstations to aid the public in their research.

The center is managed primarily by the COMELEC-EID through the support of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

“We are inviting the public, most especially the students and first time voters, to make use of our bagongbotante Knowledge Base Center. This facility is entirely for them,” says COMELEC spokesman and EID chief James Jimenez.

He said students who are conducting research on topics related to elections and democracy “should take advantage of the extensive collection of COMELEC documents and literature on election history and election sciences housed in the center.”

Jimenez added that aside from the bagongbotante Knowledge Base Center, the COMELEC is also working on a mechanism that will grant undergraduate and graduate students research and thesis assistance, provided that the approved topic must delve on the Philippine Electoral System or related fields.

He said qualified students under the poll body’s research and thesis assistance scheme shall be granted free use of all research materials available at the COMELEC; priority scheduling of interviews with COMELEC officials; free use of COMELEC-EID reproduction facilities and priority use of the bagongbotante Knowledge Base Center.

Jimenez said interested parties should log-on to http://bagongbotante.ph/ for additional information on the bagongbotante project. ###
