COMELEC resets the Election Period for the upcoming SK elections

The Commission on Elections has again adjusted the start of the election period for the April 25, 2015 Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Elections.

In Resolution No. 9934, promulgated 24 March 2015, the COMELEC set the new Election Period from April 10, 2015 (Friday) to May 10, 2015 (Sunday).

The poll body said that there is a necessity to adjust further the start of the Election Period in the Calendar of Activities and Periods of Certain Prohibited Acts, “to avoid a situation wherein the prohibition on certain acts is already effective, only to be nullified later on when House Bill No. 5209 becomes a law.”

House Bill No. 5209 postponing the SK Elections to the last Monday of October 2016 is now with the Office of the President awaiting action by the President.

On October 21, 2014, the COMELEC issued Resolution NO. 9905 setting the conduct of the SK elections on February 21, 2015. The COMELEC again postponed the SK elections to April 25, 2015 by virtue of COMELEC Resolution No. 9930, promulgated 5 February 2015.

The Election Period for the SK election is supposed to start on March 26, 2015, under COMELEC Resolution 9930. ###

  1. Lots of postponement. This should just be abolished instead.
